Nokia C3 Review

Launched as a messaging phone, the Nokia C3 on the first glance bears resemblance to the Nokia E72. However, the phone is designed keeping in mind the youngsters as there are a number of social networking applications for them.

The first of the features that is touted as the basic need of messaging is the QWERTY keypad. The keys are decently sized for easy typing while the space bar and the usually used punctuations too are easy to access. The Nokia C3 runs on the Series 40 platform and is perhaps the first phone on the platform having a QWERTY keypad.

The phone has amazing connectivity options as it provides Bluetooth, USB support as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. This provides users a range of options for internet connectivity as well as easy transferability of data.

The phone has the standard QVGA display and a 2.4”TFT display screen, which provides sharp and clear images even in the outdoors. The camera is a 2 mega pixel camera, which is capable enough to take sharp and clear pictures even on the move. However, if one expects better picture quality, then the phone would be a disappointment.

The audio jack on the phone is a standard 3.5mm making it easy to listen to music. The internal memory of the phone is a decent 55 MB while there is support for external memory up to 8 GB. The battery life of the phone is decent enough at up to 7 hours in the talk mode. Although the C3 does not support 3G, there is GPRS with Opera Mini.

As the Nokia C3 is launched as a messaging phone, it provides a number of features for the same. Typing on the QWERTY keypad is convenient. It supports the popular platforms used for messaging such as the SMS, instant messaging, email etc. on MSN, Yahoo! Messenger etc. The web browsing needs are handled by the Opera Mini installed in the phone.
Users of the Nokia C3 can access Twitter and Facebook on their phone. However, as the Communities application included in the C3 is a J2ME application, loading and starting it up takes a while again with it not running in the background. Therefore, each time one wants to reply, he would have to launch the app. Actually, it is the processor, the Series 40 platform that is to be blamed. Compared to the faster Symbian Series 60 platform for smartphones, the Series 40 seems to be slow and loading of apps takes time.
There are virtually no flaws to be found on the Nokia C3, except that of the platform. However, with the phone being low-priced, it is understandable that Nokia has provided a smartphone with a slower processor, but the features provided make it an excellent phone.
